Quick Qs
What is your academic background?
I'm a senior at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) where I study Information Sciences (HCI/UX Pathway) and Brain and Cognitive Science. Although my primary interests lie in human-computer interaction, I also find myself curious about linguistics, urban design, health technology, and cybersecurity.
How did you get into design?
I have always considered myself a creative. However, when it comes to these creative pursuits, I think of myself as a master of none. My hyperfixations ebb and flow, as I try new hobbies: crocheting, junk journaling, french flower beading. However, one thing is for certain: I love the process of making, especially for others. Whether it's through digital or physical project, I find that I can make lives 1% better through design.
What draws you into design?
As a designer, I am most drawn to the investigation and the synthesis of information because I love to listen to people tell their stories. By utilizing a mixed method research approach, I hope to gain a better understanding and outlook about how the world works. My intent is to ensure that my designs are desired, meaningful, accessible, and inclusive. Although I do take a human-centered approach, I do like to incorporate post-human frameworks to think about broader implications.
